Letter from Observer/Advertiser from 2005 The six Morley Borough Independent Councillors on Leeds City Council are now nailing their colours clearly to the Tory mast. In the budget for the new financial year, they failed to back the Labour Party in opposing the massive cuts in social services proposed by the Tory-led coalition in Leeds. Not only did the Morley Independent councillors fail to oppose the new Tory/Liberal-controlled council implementing £4 million worth of cuts, they went one step further than the Tories and Liberals by proposing a further cut of £1 million, meaning a £5 million cut in total! Vital home care services for older people living in Morley have been cut, leaving vunerable older people without services to help them with their shopping and cleaning. Despite their claiming to be working in the interest of Morley people, it would seem that they are content to allow the Tories to push through their agenda of cutting services to those most in need in Morley.
