Morley Observer/Advertiser 19/7/06 Regarding Derek Bradley’s letter (December 27). Once Mr Bradley advised me to attend council meetings. It took me a few years sir, but how right you were. Every voter in Morley should attend these meetings and see the true face, or should I say faces, of their councillor. At the South (Outer) Area Committee, Coun Beverley asked that the English should be included as a specific race in the Morley Literature Festival, (the reason for this is because on the council’s agenda it was stated that writers and story tellers from Asian, traveller and Irish backgrounds should be encluraged to take part) much to the derision of the Independents. Coun Finnegan laughed and said: “We live in a multi-cultural society whether Coun Beverley likes it or not!” and Coun Grayshon outrageously referred to a discredited Channel Four programme suggesting there was no such race as the English! So there you have it. If you’re English the Independents don’t think you exist so I assume they don’t want your vote… Good advice from Derek BRadley, get along to the council meetings and see the real face of your councillor, not th smiling mask they present just before an election.
