What benefits?

In response to Coun Judith Elliott’s letter in last week’s edition. Her letter was headed “the facts”, and said that without the £15 million PFI funding the sports centre “will be closed”.

If Coun Elliott was at the meeting she would have known that the officials at the meeting said that things would “remain the same”. Only last week the sports centre was undergoing cosmetic improvements to the structure of the building.

Why was this, if the centre is to be pull down?

If the present sports centre was refurbished, we would have a large sports centre capable of all activities. The new build option will be smaller, involve fewer activities and will cost more.

As other people have said, the facilities are over subscribed, with waiting lists for many activities.

If Couns Elliott or Grayshon can tell us the benefits of a smaller, more costly sports centre, then the criticisms may go away.

It is nice to see more people writing letters, even though councillors seem short on facts.

An on another subject, although I am glad to see people willing to volunteer to help clean up Morley, it might be a good idea to have some fines imposed on those wgo drop litter.
