Finnegan booted off council for downloading porn

The leader of the Morley Borough Independents, Robert Finnegan, is a reject from the Labour Party who was forced to resign from Leeds City Council following a disgraceful incident in which he downloaded indecent pornographic imagery from the internet – all at the council taxpayers expense. He tried to get back into the Labour party and stand as a Labour candidate in the first ever elections to Morley Town Council, but he was soundly rejected by the selection panel, which cited that he ‘did not meet the standards required by the party in relation to local government standards and ethics.’ It wasn’t just the Labour Party that wanted nothing to do with this odious individual. Tom Leadley, who was then the chairman of the town council committee said at the time that the committee was pleased that Finnegan had been rejected, as had he been allowed to stand, the town council would have been discredited before it even got started. How ironic it is that this same Tom Leadley now sits as a Morley Borough Independent Councillor in the Morley North Ward alongside Robert Finnegan! One local mum, who wished to remain anonymous for her own safety, said: ‘The man is a disgrace, I hope he has been put on the sex offenders register.’ Politicians from any other party with such a disgraceful history of abusing their positions of power to access indecent online imagery would have seen their political careers come to a close by now.
